My Methods
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a structured, goal-oriented psychotherapy that helps individuals identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviours. I am experienced using evidence based CBT tools to treat anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions by promoting healthier thinking and coping strategies.
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT helps individuals accept difficult thoughts and emotions while committing to value-driven actions. It encourages psychological flexibility by fostering acceptance, mindfulness, and behavioural change. I find ACT very effective when working with clients experiencing grief and loss.
-
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
SFBT is a goal-oriented, short-term therapy that focuses on identifying and building solutions. It helps individuals recognise their strengths and past successes to create practical strategies for positive change. This is embedded throughout my coaching and counselling practice.
-
Positive Psychology
Positive psychology examines strengths, virtues and factors that contribute to human flourishing and well-being. It focuses on enhancing positive emotions, resilience, and meaningful experiences to help individuals thrive. I have a deep understanding and passion for this emerging field and particularly utilise this in coaching and psychotherapy.
-
Decision Making
This is the cognitive process of selecting a course of action among multiple options based on reasoning, emotions, and biases. It is influenced by factors like heuristics, risk perception, past experiences, and social influences. I use decision-making strategies to help clients strengthen problem-solving skills, manage uncertainty, and make choices aligned with their values and well-being.
-
Motivational Interviewing (MI)
MI is designed for individuals to resolve ambivalence and strengthen motivation for positive change. It uses open-ended questions, reflective listening, and empathy to empower clients in making their own decisions. It can be very effective when skilfully used by a therapist versed in Positive Psychology and Rogerian Counselling.
-
The Rogerian approach
Also termed Person-Centered Therapy and pioneered by Karl Rogers, it emphasises empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness to create a supportive therapeutic environment. It helps clients explore their feelings and find their own solutions by fostering self-acceptance and personal growth. This is central to all my therapy.
-
Mindfulness
The practice of being fully present in the moment without judgment, enhancing emotional regulation and well-being. Research shows it can change neural pathways in the brain related to rumination, worry, emotional reactivity and self-regulation.
I have found it a great tool for clients exploring their psycho-education and have seen it successfully reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.
